Based in New Delhi, Edward is the Fashion Director of Harper’s Bazaar India.  He was born in Aizwal, Mizoram – a city he still considers home.

The Beginning > As cliché as it may sound, I’ve always loved fashion – although it wasn’t something I considered could become a profession. A chance meeting with a career counselor in school changed everything and I enrolled myself in NIFT, New Delhi as a fashion design student.  I quickly realised  designing wasn’t really what I wanted to do, as I never considered myself to be very good at it. That’s how becoming a stylist came up – I could work with clothes, making things look new and beautiful without designing at all, a perfect job! My first exposure to fashion was as a backstage helper, helping the models to change during a fashion show and was absolutely thrilled. I then met fashion show director Aparna Bahl from Preferred Professionals and assisted her during Lakmé Fashion. As they say, the rest is history!

Inspiration > I definitely think that stylists are the underdog in this industry. There are many individuals creating beautiful images, but people don’t necessarily recognize. According to me, these are the real stars. I wouldn’t say any one particular person has inspired me, though legends like Grace Coddington, Diana Vreeland and Lucinda Chambers definitely inspire me to continuously improve my work.

Moment > One of my favorite moments ever was attending my first Paris Fashion Week in September 2009. To have been present and watching all the shows I had seen as a child on TV was an amazing feeling. My favorite shows definitely were Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, I had goosebumps all over.  Even apart from the shows, just seeing and meeting  all these beautiful people dressed up in beautiful clothes was very inspirational… definitely a benchmark moment for me.
